Chaka Khan - Chaka Khan's Son Sober After Drug Troubles

The I'm Every Woman hitmaker was granted permanent custody of her granddaughter Daija in December (11) after claiming her son Damien Holland's then-girlfriend was incapable of caring for the 10-year-old due to a "heavy involvement in drugs".

Holland was also said to have been using illegal substances, but Khan reveals he has since cleaned himself up and is in a better place.

The singer tells America's Sister 2 Sister magazine, "He's great. He went through some trials. But he's good. He's come out of it (drug troubles). He's got a good girlfriend. He's happy."

Khan, 59, has been taking care of young Daija with the help of her sister Tammy MCCrary, but the icon admits looking after a pre-teen hasn't been easy.

She says, "It's tough! It's hard to raise a child today... We try very hard... I've had to take her laptop from her before. She just earned (her cell phone) and I'm monitoring that very closely."

However, Khan insists Daija is a generally a "very good" child, and she feels a special bond with her grandkid because they share the same 23 March birthday: "We're born on the same day, so we're just alike."
