Cbs Anchor Pelley Describes Most Tv News As "A Sea Of Absurdity"

CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley has sharply criticized his rivals in general and Fox News in particular, while at the same time describing his own newscast as an island of calm in a sea of absurdity. In an interview with today's (Wednesday) Hollywood Reporter, Pelley hit out at Fox News for revealing the true identity of Mark Owen (real name: Matt Bissonnette), a member of the SEALS team involved in the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound in Pakistan, who had written a book about the raid. I cannot think of a reason journalistically that you would expose an undercover operator for the United States in that way. I cannot think [of] any public interest that was served, and now his life is in danger, the lives of all of his family members and extended family are in danger, Pelley told the Reporter. Fox had argued that anyone writing such a book should have no expectation of privacy. Its explanation was hailed even by some critics of Fox News, including the Baltimore Sun's TV columnist David Zurawik, who wrote, How can we judge the information in this book if we don't even know who the author is? The information in this book has the potential to shape and inflame public opinion. We need all the information the press can provide in order to judge such content.
