Cave Denies Plagiarism Claims

GRINDERMAN frontman NICK CAVE has fired back at accusations he plagiarised music from Scottish star FRANKIE DUFFY, after the singer threatened legal action over their songs' alleged similarities.
Former Rising Signs frontman Duffy claims Cave copied his 2005 song Grey Man for Palaces Of Montezuma, from the Grinderman 2 album, released last month (Sep10).
Duffy recently admitted he considered suing the Aussie singer after comparing the songs' melodies.
He told Thecourier.co.uk, "It's (Grey Man) been up on our MySpace even after Rising Signs split, and I don't know, I can't help thinking that Nick Cave was sitting in his house one night and decided to surf some unsigned bands and saw our site, saw we were split up and thought, 'I'll have that track, nobody will ever know...'
"I'm not sure where I want to take it but it will be interesting to see what they've got to say. Everybody I've played it to agrees it sounds like the same song and you never know, I might have to sue him in court."
Duffy has since decided to proceed with legal action, prompting Cave to respond and hit out at the Scot during Grinderman's London show on Friday (01Oct10).
Cave told the audience he was being sued by a "17-year-old from Dundee". He then jokingly denied the claims, declaring, "I wrote it for my wife," as he singled out drummer Jim Sclavunos, before performing the track in question.
