Cate Blanchett - Cate Blanchett Criticised Over Carbon Campaign

Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett is facing the wrath of her fellow Australians after signing up to promote a controversial new tax scheme in her native country.
The Elizabeth star appears in an advertising campaign urging voters Down Under to back the government's planned carbon tax, which would be levied on companies which contribute to pollution.
Many fear the tax will be passed along to families already struggling in the tough economic climate through a series of price rises, and National Party Senate Leader Barnaby Joyce, who opposes the tax, has criticised Blanchett for failing to understand the impact it will have on hard-up Australians.
He says, "It's very easy for people who have a good wage to suggest that we engage in a gesture which will have no effect, but the people who really pay the price are the ones who can't afford the fundamentals of life right now.
"I think that Cate Blanchett is a marvellous actor, a beautiful person and a wonderful Australian, but the relationship between that and a person who is, unfortunately, already doing it tough in their life, who's under the pump already because they can't afford their power bill... what do they get from the ad?"

This is a smear campaign. It is clear this is being co-ordinated by those most likely to suffer from the carbon tax - resource companies and big business all supported by the Murdoch press and climate denialists like Barnaby Joyce.Apparently it's fine for Australian billionaires to have opinions and force these down Australian's throats (Packer, Murdoch, Reinhardt - all owners or part owners of mass media sources) but when an actor has an opinion they are 'facing the wrath of [their] fellow Australians'.Cock and bull concocted by the right wing press.

Against Liberal...

Hi, I'm an Australian currently in Australia and want to support Cate and what she has done to support a Carbon price here in Australia. It's so nice to have such a high standing person show their support unlike the negative, pathetic Australian Opposition the Liberal/National party specifically people like Barnaby Joyce, Tony Abbott, Christopher Pyne, Bronwyn Bishop, Joe Hockey, Andrew Robb, Julie Bishop and probably half of the party itself. The other half including outstanding people like Malcolm Turnbull who actually support the Labor policy and have ridiculed their own party's 'direct action' plan. The Liberals are going around the country like most of the News Ltd media and are misinforming, misleading and putting into the public arena grossly incorrect information. The Australian Labor party had nothing to do with this along with the other 'open' letter by two past Liberal leaders (one a former PM) who have backed the Carbon price themselves. The current Liberal/National opposition have truly got no idea whatsoever. Much like Donald Trump

Good on you Cate for your stance on the Carbon Price being sought here in Australia. Don't listen to dickheads who ridicule you for what you and Michael Caton (and others) have done. Those critics have themselves got no idea and do not understand what IS required, especially the Liberal/National Party who is in opposition here in Australia. Long may they stay in opposition.
