The Black Keys star Patrick Carney has sparked a New Year war of words with rockers Nickelback after blaming the much-maligned Canadian band for the current state of music.
In the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine, Carney takes aim at Chad Kroeger's band as he attempts to explain why he thinks rock music is suffering in 2012.
He says, "Rock 'n' roll is dying because people became OK with Nickelback being the biggest band in the world.
"They became OK with the idea that the biggest rock band in the world is always going to be s**t (and) therefore you should never try to be the biggest rock band in the world. F**k that!
"Rock 'n' roll is the music I feel the most passionately about, and I don't like to see it f**king ruined and spoon-fed down our throats in this watered-down, post-grunge c**p, horrendous s**t. When people start lumping us into that kind of s**t, it's like, ‘F**k you,' honestly."
