Carlos Santana Didn't Mind Wedding Rain

Carlos Santana didn't mind that it rained on his wedding day.

The legendary 'Black Magic Woman' guitarist married drummer Cindy Blackman on the island of Maui in Hawaii on December 19 and said bad weather wasn't going to affect the big day.

The 63-year-old told People.com: "The weather was kind of iffy, so we said, 'Let's just do it inside', because no matter where we did it, the sun was shining."

His new wife added: "Rain represents mercy. It couldn't have been more beautiful."

The nuptials between the pair was a spiritual affair watched by 180 guests including musician friends Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, and the ceremony enabled the pair to make good use of the wet weather outside.

Cindy, 51, explained: "My favourite part of the ceremony was when we washed our hands in a bowl of rainwater. We absolved ourselves of all things past and all things future except the two of us. It felt so clearing to do that."

The newly married couple also released Doves "to release our purity and love into the cosmos."

Carlos proposed to Cindy - who rose to fame as a drummer for Lenny Kravitz and has recorded a number of jazz albums under her own name - during a concert last July.

The singer added: "Cindy is a match with everything that I am, from fire of passion to vulnerability. Everything tastes better when you share it with your soul mate."

Carlos was previously married to Deborah until they split in 2007 after 34 years. The couple have three grown up children together.
