Captain America Whips Jack Sparrow

Paramount Home Entertainment's Captain America The First Avenger sent Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides to the plank last week. The Marvel superhero debuted in first place on the DVD and Blu-ray Disc charts, according to Nielsen VideoScan First Alert. According to Home Media magazine, Blu-ray Disc sales for Captain America accounted for 68 percent of the total. The latest Pirates movie fell to No. 2. Somewhat surprisingly, Winnie the Pooh, the low-budget, hand-drawn animated feature from Disney, which had only a brief life in theaters and grossed just $26.7 million, debuted in third place on the sales charts. On the rental chart, Captain America landed in first place, inasmuch as Paramount, unlike several other studios, does not impose a 28-day waiting period on the top renters, Netflix and Redbox.
