Captain America: The Winter Soldier has beaten Rio 2 to defend its number one spot on the North American box office chart.
The superhero epic, starring Chris Evans as Captain America opposite Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, banked $41.4 million (£25.88 million) in its second week on release, just enough to soar past the animated birds of the Rio sequel, which opened at number two with $39 million (£24.4 million).
Supernatural thriller Oculus debuted at three with $12 million (£7.5 million), ahead of Kevin Costner's American football drama Draft Day, which entered the chart at four with a disappointing $9.8 million (£6.13 million).
Divergent rounded out the top five with $7.5 million (£4.69 million).
The BBC drama starring Aidan Turner returns to BBC One on September 4th.
