'Can Film Festival' Launches Free 11th Hour Screenings

by | 06 May 2008

A new film festival is offering free screenings of Leonardo DiCaprio's ecological documentary The 11th Hour to encourage UK cinemagoers to recycle.

While top names in Hollywood will soon be assembling on the Cote d'Azur for the Cannes film festival, British movie fans can attend the 'Can Film Festival' in London, Glasgow and Manchester for a chance to see the Titanic star's acclaimed effort to build environmental awareness.

Called an "unnerving, surprisingly affecting documentary about our environmental calamity" by the New York Times newspaper, The 11th Hour considers how rising global temperatures, record rainfall, famine and drought see the earth at the tipping point of an ecological nightmare.

Though entry to the screenings is free - on a first come, first served basis - attendees are encouraged to bring along an empty drinks can to be recycled as part of the festival's effort to spread the word about changes that must be made to conserve the future of the world.

"The great thing about the Can Film Festival is that it will bring people together and encourage them to recycle more," explained a spokesperson.

"It will also highlight the fact that recycling is simple. The drinks can is not only 100 per cent recyclable but infinitely recyclable and helps save energy."

The free screenings of The 11th Hour take place from 18:30 BST at the below locations:

Thursday May 8th: London - Prince Charles Cinema

Thursday May 15th: Glasgow - Film Theatre

Thursday May 22nd: Manchester - AMC Cinema Great Northern
