Hall of Fame baseball great Cal Ripken, JR.'s mother is safe and well after a 24-hour abduction nightmare.
Vi Ripken, 74, was kidnapped just after 7am on Tuesday (24Jul12) outside her home near Baltimore, Maryland by a man who forced her into her car.
She was found in her vehicle near her home in Aberdeen early on Wednesday morning (25Jul12).
Police still have no idea what the kidnapper's motive was and he never demanded a ransom; it is not clear if he knew his victim was a sports legend's mum.
Fbi agents and Maryland State Police investigators have launched a search for the abductor, who is described as a tall, thin white man with glasses.
A statement from retired baseball great Ripken's family reads: "This has been a very trying time for our family, but we are grateful and relieved that mom is back with us, safe and healthy. We want to thank everyone for their tremendous support, especially all of the law enforcement agencies that worked so hard and quickly."
