Cage Movie Crash Victim Feared He Would Die

A chef injured when filming of a high-speed car chase for Nicolas Cage's new movie ended in a horror crash feared he would die from the impact.

Mamadou Babaou, 24, is nursing a sore head and a strained back after he was knocked down by a street pole when a stunt car lost control in New York's Times Square during shooting of The Sorcerer's Apprentice on Monday morning (04May09).

The Ferrari was racing down the city's Seventh Avenue when it skidded on the rain-covered street and careered into a lamppost.

The pole smashed into Babaou, and the spinning car then collided into another onlooker, Salma Sheuly.

Babaou tells the New York Daily News, "I hear a lot of sound(s) in my head and my back is killing me. I was thinking I was dying. It was crazy. I passed out."

Both victims were treated at the city's Bellevue Hospital and released within hours - but Babaou insists he is still shaken by the incident.

He adds: "I'd like to talk to (the movie producers) to tell them to be more careful, to watch what they're doing."

Cage's stunt double Jeremy Fry, 34, was behind the wheel of the high-powered car. Police say he will not face charges in connection with the crash.
