Cable Miniseries Claims Week's Top Ratings
No program on broadcast television last week produced bigger ratings than Hatfields and McCoys , on cable's History Channel. The three episodes of the miniseries took the three top places on Nielsen's cable-ratings chart, with the third episode capturing 14.29 million viewers. By comparison, broadcast TV, which officially went into the summer rerun season last week, appeared anemic, with the top-rated show, NBC's America's Got Talent, drawing 11.5 million viewers and CBS's NCIS coming in second with 10.25 million viewers. No other broadcast program produced audience figures in the double digits. On a slow news week, NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams , which aired only on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, averaged 7.87 million viewers, followed by ABC World News with Diane Sawyer with 6.94 million. The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley was the only newscast to increase its audience, winding up with 5.85 million viewers. Overall, CBS again wound up as the top-rated network, averaging a 4.0 rating and a 7 share. ABC placed second with a 3.2/5, edging out NBC with a 3.0/5. Fox trailed with a 2.2/4.
