Incarcerated rapper COREY MILLER has appealed to a Louisiana judge to declare him impoverished, because he has no money to fund an appeal for his second-degree murder charge.
The star, formerly known as C-Murder, was charged with slaying a teen in a New Orleans club in 2002. He was handed a life sentence in 2003, but the ruling was overturned in 2006 after he had spent three years in prison.
A second trial began in August (09) and the star was once again ordered to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Miller, the younger brother of rap mogul Master P, is planning to fight the charge by launching an appeal - but he has no way of covering the costs, which are estimated at more than $20,700 (£12,940).
In court documents, his attorneys state, "(C-Murder) is presumed to be indigent because he is incarcerated, does not own a vehicle or real estate or have income or savings.
"A declaration that (C-Murder) is 'not indigent' would compromise his right to appeal under state and federal law."
Miller's legal representatives, Robert J. Smith and John Adcock, who are providing their services to the embattled star for free, also noted the rapper's trial attorney had stepped down from the case following his client's recent sentencing.
If a judge declares Miller indigent, his appeal will be funded by the state.
Miller has maintained his innocence since he was first hit with the charges.
The case will be heard in court on 10 December (09).
