Burton And O'toole Split Over Taylor
DAME ELIZABETH TAYLOR drove a wedge between best pals PETER O'TOOLE and RICHARD BURTON, because she disapproved of her husband hanging out with the wild actor.
O'Toole and Burton became close friends when they were neighbours in Hampstead, London at the beginning of their acting careers, but when Taylor started courting Welshman Burton the pals' wild nights had to stop.
The LAWRENCE OF ARABIA star recalls, "He'd come to my place or I'd got to his and then we'd carry the other home. Elizabeth wasn't keen on that. She probably thought I led him astray.
"She didn't approve. That was a bone of contention between me and Richard. I said, 'If you now need permission to come see me, then you go f**k yourself, you old git!'"
