Burberry's Tom Nicon Commits Suicide
Burberry model Tom Nicon has been found dead after leaping 40ft to his death from his apartment in Milan.
Burberry model Tom Nicon has committed suicide.
The 22-year-old French model - who has also fronted campaigns for Louis Vuitton, Hugo Boss and Versace - reportedly jumped 40ft to his death from his apartment window on Friday (18.06.10) in Milan, Italy, after splitting from his girlfriend.
Tom - who is currently the face of iconic British brand Burberry - was found dead just hours before the start of Milan's Men's Fashion Week.
Designer Donatella Versace has expressed her sadness at the model's death.
She said: "Tom was with us on Friday morning for a final show fitting. He seemed fine and calm. He had already done three or four shows with us and he was a sweet boy.
"We just can't understand why he did what he did. We would never have thought he would do something like this.
"When we heard the news we were all so upset and we still are all so very sad."
Organisers say Milan Fashion Week will continue to go ahead but it is thought a tribute will be paid to the young Frenchman.
Police in the Italian city have revealed they are treating Tom's death as suicide.
One insider said: "We have spoken to the friends he was staying with and they have told us that he had recently broken up with his girlfriend and was depressed."
This new upset in the fashion industry follows the suicide of British designer Alexander McQueen in February and the attempted suicide of French underwear model Noemie Lenoir three months ago.
