Browne, Nash + Raitt Take Anti-nuclear Petition To Congress

Veteran rockers JACKSON BROWNE, GRAHAM NASH and BONNIE RAITT renewed their long-dormant anti-nuclear campaign by marching on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. on Tuesday (23Oct07). The trio are all founders of the Musicians For Safe Energy group, which organised the No Nukes concerts at Madison Square Garden in New York City in the late 1970s. They are widely credited with spreading public distrust of nuclear power at the time. Browne, Nash and Raitt teamed up again on Tuesday to deliver a petition containing over 120,000 signatures to Congress. The paperwork asks elected officials to increase opposition to new nuclear reactor plans. Nash said, "Thirty years ago, we felt that this monster was dead. It's trying to raise its ugly head." The musicians have launched a video on file-sharing website YouTube.com to help their campaign, which is also being backed by environmental groups and rockers including Pearl Jam, R.E.M., Ben Harper, Patti Smith and Maroon 5.
