Broadway To Dim Its Lights For Newman

PAUL NEWMAN will be honoured by Broadway's theatre bosses on Friday (03Oct08), when the lights of New York's famous district are dimmed for one minute.
At 8pm Eastern Time, marquees outside theatres across theatreland in the city will lower their lights in recognition of Newman's contribution to the New York stage.
Although known more as a film star, Newman graced the stage in five Broadway productions, starting in 1953 with William Inge's Picnic, where he met his future wife Joanne Woodward.
Newman last appeared on stage in New York in 2003's revival of Thornton Wilder's Our Town, which earned him his first Tony Award nomination.
Charlotte S. Martin, Executive Director of the Broadway League, says, "After beginning his illustrious career on stage, his love for theatre continued throughout his life. His presence everywhere will be missed."
Newman lost his battle with cancer last Friday (26Sep08), at the age of 83.
