Alec Baldwin - Broadway's Orphans To Close Early

Alec Baldwin's Broadway play Orphans is set to close six weeks early due to slow ticket sales.

The drama, about a gangster who is taken hostage by two brothers, picked up two Tony Award nominations for Best Revival of a Play and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play (Tom Sturridge) last week (ends03May13), but it appears the critical acclaim was not enough to save the production, which opened at the Gerald Shoenfeld Theatre on 18 April (13) and was expected to run until 30 June (13).

A post on the show's Twitter.com blog on Monday (06May13) reads: "@OrphansonBway will play its final performance on May 19th. That leaves only 16 more chances to see this incredible production."

Editors at The Hollywood Reporter suggest Orphans grossed less than $500,000 (£312,500) in the last full week of April (13), with Baldwin, Sturridge and their co-star Ben Foster playing to audiences 70 per cent full.

The early closure news is the latest drama linked to the production - Shia LaBeouf was fired from the play after clashing with Baldwin during rehearsals. He was replaced by Foster.

Alec Baldwin (Mostly) Off The Hook On Disorderly Conduct Charges 4300934 News

Alec Baldwin was in court on Tuesday, facing charges of disorderly conduct for an incident back in May, when he confronted a couple of cops, after riding his bike the wrong way in the traffic on Fifth Avenue. According to TMZ, Baldwin had not toned down his act for the courtroom. During the proceedings, he reportedly referred to NYC as “an unmanaged carnival of stupidity.”

Looks like Baldwin is off the hook for his New York mishap.

Despite his outburst, Baldwin might end up on the winning end of the trial, after he said in court that he’d rather pay a fine than apologize for berating the police officers.

According to TMZ, the judge, apparently reluctant to deal with the temperamental 30 Rock star, told Baldwin that he would let him off, if the actor could stay out of trouble for six full months. The exchange, according to the gossip website, went something like this – the judge asked, "Can you stay out of trouble, Alexander?"

Can Baldwin stay out of trouble? That's the big question.

To that, Baldwin said, "Sure, sure"

According to the New York Post newspaper's Page Six column, Judge John Delury told the star: "Looks like you have a short fuse. You want to wait this out? Do you want to apologise?"

So that happened. Let’s hope Baldwin stays out of headlines (and out of court) for rest of this year.

Remembering Elaine Stritch - Actress, Comedian, Modern Day Rebel 4291935 News

Elaine Stritch, the Broadway star and all-round kick-ass lady, passed away on Thursday at the age of 89. Stritch was known for her long and storied Broadway career. Stritch started her Broadway career with Loco in 1946, but was only given minor and understudy roles for several years before having getting what would turn out to be her big break with Noel Coward’s Sail Away in 1961. She was originally cast as the leading lady’s understudy, but replaced her full time, when it turned out that the other actress’ voice was too operatic for the part.

Elaine Stritch
The actress is survived by seven nieces and nephews and their families.

Since then, Stritch has been dropping truth bombs on stage, film and television. Her best known recent stage work was at the New York Public Theater in 2001 and on Broadway in 2002 with Elaine Stritch on Liberty – a one-woman show, which received rave reviews and earned the Tony for Best Special Theatrical Event. TV fans may recognize her as the the sharp-tongued mother of Alec Baldwin’s Jack Donaghy. She won her third Emmy award for that one.

She refused to conform and fought oppressive stereotypes since her early years. In 1951, she was arrested and fined $1 (which was probably a lot of money back then) for wearing a halter top and shorts, while resting from her bike ride in Central Park. The judge allegedly told Stritch that she could “cause a riot by removing her shirt” to which Stritch boldly replied: “Well, I was there all day and nothing happened.”

New Court Documents Detail Sandra Bullock's Terrifying Encounter With Stalker 4289635 News

A series of search warrants obtained by a US entertainment website detail the terrifying encounter actress Sandra Bullock endured when a stalker broke into her house at the beginning of June.

Sandra Bullock
Sandra Bullock discovered her stalker outside her bedroom door in June.

The incident occurred last month, on 8th June, when Bullock was awoken at 6am by banging coming from a room on the third floor of her Hollywood Hills mansion. Bullock was alone at the time in her second floor bedroom, which can only have made the encounter even more terrifying. Bullock apparently crept towards her bedroom security door in order to close it when she saw a man - now named as Joshua James Corbett - standing outside.

Fortunately, Bullock had time to shut the door and immediately called the Los Angeles police. Soon after armed police arrived and apprehended the 39-year-old stalker. Reportedly, as Corbett was being led away by police, he shouted to Bullock "Sandy, I'm sorry. Please don't press charges."

Sandra BullockBullock was alone when Corbett broke in.

It is uncertain how long Corbett was in the house. Bullock had attended Spike TV's Guys Choice 2014 Awards the previous night and had returned home at around 1am on 8th June. She was woken a little after 6am by the noise which appears to have been the result of Corbett rummaging through her possessions.

TMZ obtained the search warrants which detail how Corbett was carrying a notebook filled with pictures of The Heat actress. Also enclosed in the notebook were Corbett's writings in which he claimed Bullock was his wife. He reportedly wrote "I will forever be thinking of you and Louie, my son, as you are my wife by law, the law of God and you belong to me and me to you."

Bullock immediately called the police and managed to remain in her secure bedroom when she discovered the intruder.

Alec Baldwin's stalker was imprisioned last year and recently freed.

Writings in the notebook also suggested Corbett had been watching Bullock's house for days, as the LA Times reports. He had also managed to enter the house despite the security fence and cameras. Detectives assumed Corbett had somehow managed to scale the security fence and entered the house through a rear patio door. Corbett claimed he was actually doing the actress a favour by breaking in to her house and merely wanted to show the security Bullock had in place was inadequate.

Yet the danger Corbett posed to the 49-year-old actress was even more evident when LAPD officers searched his house and discovered, asCNN reports, a vast number of weapons including six illegal machine guns. Corbett has been charged with 19 felony counts including seven counts of possession of a machine gun, two counts of possession of an assault weapon and 10 counts of possession of a destructive device. If convicted, Corbett could face up to 12 years in prison.

There has been an alarming number of stalking incidents reported over the past few years and those who have been affected include Ellen Page, Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, and Alec Baldwin. A number of the people convicted on stalking charges have been receiving psychiatric treatment including Gomez's stalker, Che Cruz, who was ordered to seek treatment in a psychiatric facility last month.

Gary Oldman's Playboy Apology Just Won't Cut It For Anti-Defamation League 4259993 News

Once you get involved in a Hollywood scandal, it’s not easy to pull yourself out - Gary Oldman is finding this out the hard way. After his controversial interview in Playboy, wherein he criticised Hollywood’s “political correctness gone mad” and stood by Alec Baldwin and Mel Gibson for their racist and homophobic remarks. A choice quote from the interview: “I don’t know about Mel. He got drunk and said a few things, but we’ve all said those things. We’re all fucking hypocrites. That’s what I think about it.”

Gary Oldman
The Anti-Defamation League came down hard on Oldman's comments.

He then went on to use the same slurs that Gibson and Baldwin got busted for. Oldman later issued an apology of the “sorry you were offended” variety.

“Upon reading my comments in print—I see how insensitive they may be, and how they may indeed contribute to the furtherance of a false stereotype,” Oldman wrote, defending himself against backlash from the Anti-Defamation League. “Anything that contributes to this stereotype is unacceptable, including my own words on the matter. If, during the interview, I had been asked to elaborate on this point I would have pointed out that I had just finished reading Neal Gabler’s superb book about the Jews and Hollywood, An Empire of Their Own: How the Jews invented Hollywood.”

Now, ADL president Abraham Foxman has responded to Oldman’s apology, describing it as “insufficient and not satisfactory”, according to Yahoo! News. The rejection itself might not matter much to Oldman, if it wasn’t for the fact that Foxman mentioned the ADL has "just began a conversation with his managing producer." According to the statement, this is only an effort to find an amicable solution to the conflict. However, it still means that Oldman’s comments are going to haunt him for some time to come.

Gary Oldman
Oldman isn't too pleased with himself. Or with anyone else, if his Playboy interview is anything to go by.

Nicole Kidman Cannes 2014

Cannes Panning: We'd love to say we were starting the round-up on a high with the Cannes Film Festival but unfortunately for new royal biopic Grace of Monaco, there is no good news to be found. The Nicole Kidman-starring true story dramatization has been almost universally crushed by Cannes critics who found the acting wooden, the script trite and the entire picture worse than the much-slated Diana pic. You can watch the trailer here though - it's worth it for the beautiful costumes and idyllic tax-haven setting.

Baldwin Busted: Alec Baldwin should probably sneak off to some meditation resort in the mountains for the next few months until this latest debacle blows over. The hot-headed actor and TV host, who is known for his many altercations with paps, had a run-in with police this week when he was caught riding his bicycle the wrong way down a busy New York street and flew into a rage when the cops asked to see his ID. It didn't end well for the 30 Rock star: read about all the drama here.

What's more, further ugly news has emerged from the night of Bieber's DUI involving the singer's bodyguard chasing a pap into a Subway toilet and threatening him in to get photos deleted. Find out the disturbing details.

Rolf Harris Trail: The court case involving allegations of sex abuse against Aussie TV star Rolf Harris has sparked interest this week as victims give their evidence. The artist and TV presenter 84, denies 12 counts of indecent assault between 1968 and 1986, seven of which pertain to one victim; the childhood friend of his daughter, Bindi. One victim yesterday described the father-of-one as "a dirty old man" as she claimed he groped her aged 8 at an autograph signing. Get up to date on the proceedings.

H.R. Giger

Alien Artist Dies: The world's sci-fi loving community took off their space helmets this week to mourn the sudden and unexpected death of H.R. Giger, the Swiss artist credited with giving Ridley Scott's Alien movies their edge of creepiness with his dark and otherworldly xenomorph designs. Giger was aged 74 when he passed away from injuries he sustained from an accidental stair fall. Read a tribute to his nightmarish creations here.

Alec Baldwin Scolded By NYPD Hispanic Society After Bike Arrest Fury 4196199 News

Alec Baldwin has been slammed by the NYPD Hispanic Society after he was caught riding his bicycle the wrong way down a road and threw a tantrum. The actor and TV star was stopped by two female Latin American police officers on Tuesday but was arrested and issues two summonses after he allegedly became aggressive.

According to reports, Baldwin flew into a rage when the cops asked to see his ID, which he didn't have on him at the time, and was therefore taken into custody. "Police stated that he got belligerent and started arguing with them and using profanity," Deputy Chief Kim Y. Royster explained.

"Shame on Mr. Baldwin for not having his ID. Does he expect special privilege because he's an actor?" said Det. Dennis Gonzalez, head of the force's Hispanic society. "Mr. Baldwin stated the last time he was leaving the city because of the paparazzi. Maybe if he left this never would have happened," he observed, via NY Daily News.

Baldwin took to Twitter to vent his rage not long after the incident, posting one of the officer's badge numbers and criticising Rosario Montero, who was one of the two that arrested him. "My only point is that claims by (Montero) of disorderly conduct are either a distortion or outright lie. (Montero) lied in her report," he tweeted.

Leaping to the defence of his colleague, who has been with the force since 2006, Det. Gonzalez hit back at Baldwin's allegations, stating "Officer Rosario Montero conducted herself in a professional manner. She should not have to tolerate verbal abuse from Mr. Baldwin."

New York's Mayor de Blasio, who has been supported by Baldwin from early on, said that Tuesday's incident was "unfortunate." When asked about the 30 Rock star on Wednesday, the mayor was curt, saying "I think it's unfortunate. I respect him, I think he has said some important and thoughtful things about this city over the years, but this is an unfortunate situation.

"It's self-evident what happened and now we move on," the mayor added.

Baldwin's reps initially played down the incident, stating "Alec was not arrested and not charged with a crime. He received a summons relating to riding his bicycle the wrong way and not having identification." However, the actor has gained a reputation for his hot-headed public confrontations, which are usually directed towards photographers and have resulted in violence on several occasions.

He received a summons relating to riding his bicycle the wrong way and not having identification." However, the actor has gained a reputation for his hot-headed public confrontations, which are usually directed towards photographers and have resulted in violence on several occasions.

Alec Baldwin And The Bike Fiasco Vs. Other Baldwin-esque Outbursts 4194523 News

We keep trying to stick up for Alec Baldwin, but dude just keeps fluffing it up! Baldwin was arrested on Tuesday for riding his bicycle the wrong direction down a one-way street in New York City. Sounds sensible. On top of that (and probably our favourite part), he was doing so while behaving “in a violent, threatening manner” toward the police.

There’s no report of Baldwin being under the influence while behaving in this particularly odd manner (also it was 10am in the morning), so we can assume that his thought process was thus: “I AM ALEC BALDWIN.” By imagining that’s pretty much all that he ever thinks in a repetitive and forcefully self-assured manner is how we regularly accept his Baldwin-esque behaviour.

Baldwin was spotted cycling against the traffic in lower Manhattan, before being taken into custody where he was issued with two summonses: one regarding his unsafe cycling and the other for disorderly conduct. After being stopped by police, the Emmy-awarding winning actor refused to show his ID (“I AM ALEC BALDWIN”), and was just outright rude to officers, who, in response, handcuffed and detained him (“WE ARE THE POLICE”).

Baldwin was later released, we imagine he was in a fantastic mood and proceeded to go and help in a soup kitchen, or dole out other acts of kindness, all with an air of Buddha-like tranquility.

The bike fiasco comes just a couple of weeks after Baldwin was taped making an allegedly homophobic slur. Baldwin was accused of calling a photographer her “c***sucking f*g,” although he denies using either words, instead claiming he called the photographer a “fathead.” Sounds legit.

Baldwin’s bike escapades are really the least of his worries when it comes to his track record. In October 1995 he allegedly assaulted another fathead, sorry, photographer, who had been filming his then wife, Kim Basinger, as she returned home from hospital with their 3 day old daughter, Ireland. It seems as though Ireland’s very early brush with the paparazzi had an inherent effect on her, you can’t stop her from posting videos and pictures of herself these days.

A few years later Ireland was the subject of another of her dad’s misdemeanours. A voicemail he left her, calling her a “rude, thoughtless little pig” surfaced, for the first time bringing to the fore the extent of Baldwin’s anger issues.

In December 2011, a flight attendant tried to stop the actor from playing Words with Friends on his cell phone. He became enraged by the mere suggestion that he should cease his game and was eventually removed from the plane. Big mistake. Moral of the story, don’t come between Baldwin and Words with Friends.

Alec Baldwin Makes Grand Return To Twitter After New York Arrest 4194233 News

Why, Alec Baldwin? Just why? In another Baldwin story that might get your weirdness senses tingling, the controversial actor has been arrested in New York for illegal biking. As in a real bike – handlebars, gears, pedals, etc. According to TMZ, which was first to report the story, Baldwinwas detained in New York City Tuesday morning after riding his bike the wrong way on Fifth Avenue and 16th street. Apparently, his arrest was due, at least in part, to the fact that he didn’t have his ID on him at the time.

Alec Baldwin, Hilaria Baldwin
Alec and Hilaria Baldwin have been keeping a low profile since his outburst last summer.

Baldwin was then taken to the police station and was later issued a ticket for disorderly conduct, which was apparently prompted by his hostility to the police officers. The story could have ended there, but this is Alec Baldwin, so of course, it didn’t. Baldwin, who took a break from Twitter back in 2013 and deleted his personal account, took to his Alec Baldwin Foundation twitter to air his opinion.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"align=center lang="en"><p>My only point is that claims by Moreno of disorderly conduct are either a distortion or outright lie.&#10;Moreno lied in her report.</p>&mdash; ABFoundation (@ABFalecbaldwin) <a href="https://twitter.com/ABFalecbaldwin/statuses/466398920105795584" rel="nofollow" >May 14, 2014</a></blockquote>

Baldwin first told his side of the story in a series of tweets, which then morphed into a tangent directed at his arresting officers. One particular gem read: “New York City is a mismanaged carnival of stupidity that is desperate for revenue and anxious to criminalize behavior once thought benign,” referring to his arrest.

In another tweet, he wrote: “Meanwhile, photographers outside my home ONCE AGAIN terrified my daughter and nearly hit her with a camera. The police did nothing.”

So it looks like Alec Baldwin has made a return to public life. More on the story, as it develops.

Alec Baldwin Arrested For Acting "Belligerent" Towards NYPD When Caught Biking On Wrong Side 4193899 News

Alec Baldwin was arrested in New York City on Tuesday (May 13th) for cycling on the wrong side of traffic.

The outspoken actor was pulled over by the NYPD at the corner of 16th Street and Fifth Avenue at 10:15 a.m., but he was not at all happy about it.

In Touch were first to report the incident due to an insider confirming to the magazine, "[Baldwin] was riding his bike the wrong way and didn't have ID on him."

However, the 56 year-old actor wasn't arrested for biking against the traffic, he was put in handcuffs due to being "belligerent" towards the police officers.

"He was stopped by officers for riding the wrong way on a street. When the officers asked for ID, he got belligerent because he had none on him," the source added. "The officers placed him under arrest for disorderly conduct."

The notoriously short-fused celebrity let his frustration get the better of him when dealing with the cops.

"How old are these officers," Baldwin allegedly said when he was taken to the station, according to NY Daily News. "They don't even know who I am."

It seems the '30 Rock' actor has since been released as he took to Twitter to speak out against the incident.

"Officer Moreno, badge number 23388, arrested me and handcuffed me for going the wrong way on Fifth Ave," he tweeted, later adding, "Meanwhile, photographers outside my home ONCE AGAIN terrified my daughter and nearly hit her with a camera. The police did nothing."

Alec Baldwin Arrested After Riding His Bike The Wrong Way, Being Aggressive 4193363 News

Alec Baldwin was stopped by police in New York City for a cycling violation but things soon turned nasty when he allegedly became aggressive towards police, according to CNN. The TV star was snapped having been handcuffed by two officers with his bicycle leading against their patrol car.

Baldwin was issued two summonses: one for riding his bike against the flow of traffic on busy Fifth Avenue and 16th Street and the other for disorderly conduct when he allegedly became angry and started shouting at the cops when they asked him for ID.

"Police stated that he got belligerent and started arguing with them and using profanity," Deputy Chief Kim Y. Royster said. When it was discovered that Baldwin was not carrying any form of identification, he was apparently taken into custody.

Baldwin reportedly was then taken to a nearby precinct where he was allegedly heard asking the desk supervisor: "How old are these officers that they don't know who I am?"

The actor moved his tirade to Twitter not long after the arrest, posting the badge number of the officer he said arrested him and saying, "photographers outside my home ONCE AGAIN terrified my daughter and nearly hit her with a camera. The police did nothing."

The incident follows hot on the heels of a spate of bad publicity for the 30 Rock star. Known for his occasionally physical altercations with photographers, Baldwin has been in trouble for chasing one pap and using a homophobic insult, pinning another's arms behind his back, and was accused of assault when a photographer bumped the actor with his camera.
