Britt Ekland - Britt Ekland Ran Away From Peter Sellers Over Arguments
Veteran actress Britt Ekland used to run away from her late husband Peter Sellers to escape their ferocious arguments.
The Bond girl opened up about her four-year marriage to the British funnyman during an interview on Tv show Piers Morgan's Life Stories, which aired in the U.K. on Friday (29Mar13), and admits she was devastated when the tempestuous union ended in divorce in 1968.
Ekland says, "(I was) heartbroken. I mean, I just couldn't believe it."
Morgan then asked, "Was he a violent man?" prompting the actress to reply, "Physically you mean? No. But verbally, unbelievably. I used to run away sometimes."
She added, "I just wanted it to work because when he wasn't like that it was fun. Whenever he argued it was always on a Friday, he'd say, 'I'm seeing the lawyers on Monday', so you had to go through the weekend like this (on tenterhooks). And come Monday he'd say let's go into London, and he'd go to Cartier and buy me a watch because the one I had, he'd stepped on and flushed down the toilet...
"My life was always like this, up and down... I never knew where he was (emotionally). I think he was very, very insecure and he had to be on top of everything."
The couple became parents to a daughter, Victoria, before the marriage broke down. Sellers died in 1980.
