Brits Bosses On Adele Cut Off: Sorry, We Had To Move On

The organisers of the Brit Awards have apologized to Adele for cutting short her acceptance speech at last night's televised ceremony (February 21, 2012). Triumphant after her six-Grammy win two weeks ago, Adele won the 'Best Album' award last night but was only given a short amount of time to thank those involved in the album's success. When the host, James Corden, told her he was having to interrupt, she raised her middle finger in response - the very same gesture that landed Mia in hot water during Madonna's Super Bowl performance recently.

Whereas Mia was threatened with a fine, though, Adele has received an apology. A report from the Telegraph today suggests the ceremony had over-run, largely due to "a rambling acceptance speech" from Blur's Damon Albarn, after the band won an award for their Outstanding Contribution To Music. The show's organisers have released a statement, saying "We regret this happened and we send our deepest apologies to Adele that her big moment was cut short due to the live show over running." The show's broadcasters, Itv, also issued an apology to the singer, saying "The Brits is a live event. Unfortunately the programme was overrunning and we had to move on. We would like to apologise to Adele for the interruption."

Adele did have time to say how proud she was to win the award and to be "flying the flag" for Britain: "Nothing makes me prouder, yeah, than coming home with six Grammys, then coming to the Brits and winning album of the year." Adele also won the British Female Solo Artist award. She lost out on British single, the only award that is voted for by fans. That award went to the former X Factor contestants One Direction, for their single 'What Makes You Beautiful.'
