Britney Spears 'Receiving Treatment On Psychiatric Ward'by Contributor | 01 February 2008
Troubled pop singer Britney Spears is reportedly receiving treatment on a California psychiatric ward today.
The 26-year-old was taken by Los Angeles police to the UCLA medical centre yesterday in what appeared to be an attempt to forcibly provide her with care after high-profile problems.
Reports from the US suggest the star has been sectioned to ensure she receives treatment and her mother was seen at the hospital.
When asked by reporters about the state of her daughter, Lynne Spears said she was doing OK, the Associated Press reported.
Spears has rarely been out of the headlines this year, with her highly-public custody battle with former husband Kevin Federline a source of numerous news stories.
American law means the Toxic singer could be kept in hospital for 72 hours if doctors deem it necessary.
She was previously hospitalised on January 3rd after police were called to her Los Angeles home when she apparently refused to allow sons Jayden James, one, and Sean Preston, two, to be taken by her father as planned.
On that occasion Spears was released within 48 hours but she lost custody of her children as a result.
She is due to face another court hearing on Monday as part the ongoing custody battle.
According to E! Online, Spears' English boyfriend Adnan Ghalib, a photographer, was seen visiting the hospital in the same car as her mother and her mother's friend Jackie.
The singer's father Jamie Spears, manager Sam Lufti and friend Alli Sims were also said to have gone to the hospital after she was admitted.
As well as her ongoing battle with Federline, Spears has also been in the news for shaving her head and going out without any underwear in recent months.
