After premiering new song and The Smurf 2 soundtrack, 'Ooh La La' yesterday (17th June), Britney Spears revealed a few details about her upcoming eighth studio album.

Speaking on 'On Air with Ryan Seacrest', pop icon Spears announced her upcoming musical work and told listeners that she hoped her new project would be released by the end of the year and would include collaborations with Will.i.am and Madonna's record producer, William Orbit.

The X Factor USA judge, who began her career as the 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' teen star, described the new and different direction she wants to follow on her new album: "I want to definitely take this album and have a new approach with it and make it a little different than anything I've ever done."

The as-yet-unnamed new album will follow on from 2011's Femme Fatale which rocketed the 'Toxic' singer to the top of the charts with a little help from Will.i.am and Orbit, amongst others and earned her a sixth No.1 album.

31 year-old Spears also spoke of the value she hopes her collaborators will bring again to her sound: "Will [Will.i.am] has a lot of really interesting different tracks that I've listened to that are really cool that I haven't actually written on yet, but there's a lot of guitar and I think people will be surprised with this album."

Well, obviously it'll have to be different in some ways, but just how different remains to be seen. Will she pull a Muse and take it dubstep? Or will the addition of guitar take her down the rock ballad route? Watch this space!
