British Politician Charles Kennedy Has Died At The Age Of 55 Just Weeks After Losing His Seat In Parliament.
Kennedy, former leader of the U.K.'s third biggest political party, the Liberal Democrats, passed away at his home in Fort William, Scotland, it was announced on Tuesday (02Jun15).
No cause of death had been given as WENN went to press but police confirmed the circumstances are not thought to be suspicious.
Kennedy was leader of the Liberal Democrats from 1999 to 2006, and continued as a Member of Parliament after stepping down. He lost his parliamentary seat for Ross, Skye and Lochaber at the U.K.'s general election last month (May15).
His family says in a statement, "It is with great sadness, and an enormous sense of shock, that we announce the death of Charles Kennedy. We are obviously devastated at the loss. Charles was a fine man, a talented politician, and a loving father to his young son."
