Bret Mckenzie On His Inflated Ego After Oscar Win

Bret MCkenzie, one half of the songwriting duo Flight Of The Conchords, has been joking about his new inflated ego after he landed the Oscar for Best Song at the 84th Academy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (26 February 2012).

New Zealander MCKenzie took home the golden statuette for his tune 'Man or Muppet' from the Muppets movie, starring Jason Segel, and was all smiles backstage. On whether he will continue writing songs with Conchords pal Jemaine Clement after winning an Oscar, Bret said, "I'm looking forward to writing with Jermaine in the future again because I'll be able to pull out the Oscar card and say, 'Um, I think we should use this chord because I won an Oscar". 'Man or Muppet' was one of only two tracks nominated for Best Song, though MCKenzie says he was more than happy to have less competition, saying, "Well, I am not sure why they only nominated two songs, but I was very happy with that situation. Uhm, and, uhm, I think the system, you know, leads itself toward musicals instead of songs, you know, the needle dropped".

Elsewhere at the Oscars, silent French movie 'The Artist' and Martin Scorsese's Hugo won five awards each, while Meryl Streep ended her 29 year drought to win the Best Actress award. During a recent interview with the New York Magazine, MCKenzie said there are plans for him and Clement to head out on a 'Flights of the Conchords' reunion tour in 2012, with the possibility of a movie later in the year.
