Actor Brendan Fraser suffers a loss of over $87,000 (£54,375) each month due to mounting expenses as he fights to reduce alimony and child support payments to his ex-wife.

The Mummy star has been handing over $75,000 (£46,875) a month to Afton Smith, the mother of his three sons, since their divorce in 2009, but he recently filed papers in a Connecticut court asking a judge to lower his payments to his ex, because he can no longer afford the bill.

Fraser claims unidentified "medical issues" have hampered his earning abilities and insists he is not banking as much as he used to.

As part of the court proceedings, the actor submitted a document listing his wages and expenses, revealing he makes just over $205,700 (£128,563) a month, but has to hand over $112,803 (£70,502) to his agents and representatives, reports Tmz.com.

As a result, he is left in the red after paying Smith her share and taking out over $34,000 (£21,250) for income tax, in addition to more than $5,000 (£3,125) for mortgages and an estimated $6,000 (£3,750) in property tax.

His other expenses include $5,200 (£3,250) for gardening fees, $3,000 (£1,875) for staffing and more than $5,000 (£3,125) for family support and gifts.

However, Fraser won't be short of cash in the long term - his assets are reportedly worth an estimated $25 million (£15.6 million).
