Boyle's Idol Paige Dismisses Her Success

SUSAN BOYLE's idol ELAINE PAIGE has branded the Scottish singer "a virus", attributing the star's success to the clip-sharing website YouTube.com.
The I Dreamed A Dream hitmaker became an overnight success last year (09) after a clip of her singing I Dreamed A Dream at an audition on Britain's Got Talent was uploaded to the site.
Boyle gained millions of fans around the world after she was thrust into the spotlight, and even fulfilled a lifelong ambition by singing a duet with her hero Paige last year (09) on U.K. TV.
But Paige isn't convinced Boyle has what it takes to have a lasting career in the music industry.
She says, "I don't particularly feel any pride for her - I'm sure she is proud of what she has done. It's all about turning someone into an immediate celebrity at the expense of longevity and working hard and experience. Susan Boyle is doing terribly well considering she literally came to the attention of the world with the advent of YouTube. She was like a virus really that spread across the world in a nanosecond. She is a girl with no experience of anything to do with theatrics, the music business, or art in any way.
"Longevity is gained through knowledge, experience and effort so it will remain to be seen (if she will last). When I started (my career) YouTube didn't exist but even then with 15 years of experience prior to my success (starring in the musical) Evita it was difficult, so I admire the way she has handled her sudden success.
"Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor just take a bunch of people from real life who think they can sing and try and turn them into overnight 'stars' with a couple of songs. It's not entertainment."

Susan Boyle Applies For Minimum-Wage Job at Ladbrokes Bookies 4043304 News

Susan Boyle has reportedly applied for a minimum wage job at her local branch of Ladbrokes bookmakers. The Scottish singer is said to be worth an estimated £20 million though she is keen on the cashiers job at Ladbrokes in Blackburn, which pays just over £6 per hour.

Susan BoyleSusan Boyle Has Always Remained Loyal To Her Native Scotland

The 52-year-old Britain's Got Talent runner-up walked into the store on Thursday (January 23, 2013) and spoke with deputy manager David Corr regarding the vacancy.

He told The Sun on Sunday: "Susan Boyle walked into the shop and inquired about the job advertised in our window. We were all in shock."

One local resident, said: "She explained she was really keen on working there and she lives nearby.

"Obviously she doesn't need the money so I think she saw it as a way of getting her out of her house and taking her mind off things."

A spokesperson for Ladbrokes confirmed the surprising scene, telling MailOnline: "Susan came in to the shop and asked about the part-time position. She had previously applied for a job with us before she was famous.

"There must be something in the Britain's Got Talent water as [BGT judge] Alesha Dixon worked for Ladbrokes before finding fame!"

Should she land the position, Boyle will be requiring a couple of weeks off in March and April for her extensive UK tour. The shows begin at the Liverpool Empire on March 22 before heading to York, Manchester, Newcastle, Milton Keynes, Oxford, Nottingham, Leicester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Bristol, London and others.

Lily Allen Tops UK Singles Chart With 'John Lewis Song,' But Can She Make It To Xmas? 3989990 News

You know it’s the holiday season when songs from Christmas adverts take over the charts – in this case it’s Lily Allen’s cover of Keane’s Somewhere Only We Know. The track, which is featured in a John Lewis ad campaign, was bumped off the top last week. The gentle tones of Somewhere, so unlike Allen’s latest previous single Hard Out Here, still managed to topple One Direction’s Story of My Life and Bastille’s Of The Night.

Lily Allen, Saving Mr Banks Premiere
Allen's Christmas cover will have to hold out for another two weeks against tough competition.

According to the Official Charts Company, Allen’s festive cover might even have a chance at the coveted Christmas Number one – provided it can outlast the competition. Somewhere Only We Know would have to beat songs by the likes of AC/DC, U2, and Susan Boyle to hold on to its Number 1 for two more weeks. This year’s festive chart sees the return of both X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent alumni, as James Arthur, Leona Lewis and Lucy Spraggan, as well as Richard & Adam and Susan Boyle will all be releasing singles. With so many people staking a claim at the Christmas Number 1, Allen will have a tough time keeping her lead.

Susan Boyle, Pride of Britain Awards
This year sees an en masse return of talent show stars.

And while Allen’s top spot might have been fairly predictable, some reemerging Christmas hits came into the charts very unexpectedly. 26 years after its release, Fairytale Of New York, recorded by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl, reappeared at number 16, while Mariah Carey's 1996 ballad All I Want For Christmas Is You rode all the way to number 14.

Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey also came out as a surprise contender this year.

Asperger's Syndrome Diagnosis Came As A Relief To Susan Boyle 3989815 News

Singing sensation Susan Boyle, who shot to fame after her powerful voice was showcased on Britain's Got Talent back in 2009, has come forward about being recently diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome. In a recent interview with The Observer, Boyle revealed that she is actually relieved about finally getting a correct diagnosis, after having spent her life with the label “brain-damaged.”

Boyle says that receiving the diagnosis has been "a relief."

Boyle received the wrong diagnosis after complications during birth and has carried the stigma throughout her 52 years of life. . "It was the wrong diagnosis when I was a kid," she says. "I was told I had brain damage. I always knew it was an unfair label. Now I have a clearer understanding of what's wrong and I feel relieved and a bit more relaxed about myself."

Boyle last made a stir while promoting her last album Standing Ovation, and creating the most unfortunate Twitter hashtag in the process.

Asperger’s is a high-functioning form of autism, which affects social interaction and sometimes decreases sufferers’ ability to gauge emotions, react appropriately in social situations. In severe cases, it can make it difficult for a sufferer to form relationship. Growing up in the Scottish town of Blackburn, West Lothian, Boyle was often bullied because of her condition. Now she says that understanding it, as well as getting the proper support has been helpful.

"I went to seek a diagnosis from a Scottish specialist," she says. "Nobody told me to. I thought I had a more serious illness and couldn't function properly."

The singer has had several public outbursts and moments of volatile behavior in the past, which her diagnosis puts into perspective. Boyle hopes that now, after finally being diagnosed accurately, she can get some understanding for her condition.

"It will not make any difference to my life. It's just a condition that I have to live with and work through," she explains. “I think people will treat me better because they will have a much greater understanding of who I am and why I do the things I do.”

Susan Boyle Reveals Her Battle With Asperger's Syndrome 3989232 News

Susan Boyle revealed for the first time this weekend that she suffers from Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism that usually affects the way a patient socially interacts with others and enamours the patient with one particular interest or behavioural trait. The singer told British newspaper The Observer that she was diagnosed with the mental disorder last year, having been falsely diagnosed as a child.

The 2009 Britain's Got Talent finalist told the paper that she was wrongly diagnosed with having brain damage when she was a child. Knowing that she had been unfairly and incorrectly labelled, the singer decided to re-evaluate herself in 2012 and visited a specialist in her native Scotland, where she was finally given the correct diagnosis after 52-years of waiting. The singer described her eventual diagnosis as a "relief."

"Some articles have said I have brain damage," she told the Sunday (8 December) paper. "It's been something else. ...I have always known that I have had an unfair label put upon me."

"I struggle with relationships," Boyle continued, this time referring to the difficulties involving a person's social skills that the disorder creates. "I never know if people are genuine. I would say I have relationship difficulties, communicative difficulties, which lead to a lot of frustration. If people were a bit more patient, that would help."

With her new diagnosis, Boyle told the paper that she does not want to be defined as 'the singer with asperger's,' but did express some relief at the fact that her diagnosis may help people to understand her behavious more. She added, "Asperger's doesn't define me. It's a condition that I have to live with and work through, but I feel more relaxed about myself. People will have a greater understanding of who I am and why I do the things I do."

Susan Boyle Is "More Relaxed" After Asperger's Syndrome Diagnosis 3988664 News

Susan Boyle is undoubtedly the biggest and most heart-warming success story from any reality talent show that have dominated the television screens in the last decade.

Four years ago in 2009 the Scottish born auditionee shocked the world with a mind-blowing performance of 'I Dreamed A Dream' on 'Britain's Got Talent'.

In present day Boyle is a top selling artist, selling over 19 million albums worldwide and has received two Grammy Award nominations.

However the journey, from a personal viewpoint, has been less than easy with many critics labelling her as someone with learning difficulties and even 'brain damaged'.

In a recent interview with UK's The Observer the 52 year-old reveals she was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome in 2012, which is a high functioning form of autism.

"It was the wrong diagnosis when I was a kid," she says. "I was told I had brain damage. I always knew it was an unfair label. Now I have a clearer understanding of what's wrong and I feel relieved and a bit more relaxed about myself."

The syndrome tends to effect an individual's communication skills and social interaction ability, but Boyle describes finding out the diagnosis as a "relief".

"I went to seek a diagnosis from a Scottish specialist," she told the Observer. "Nobody told me to. I thought I had a more serious illness and couldn't function properly."

Interestingly, the series of simple tests she went through concluded that her intelligence levels had nothing to with the syndrome as she says, "I was told my IQ was above average."

The 'Home For Christmas' hit maker continued, "It will not make any difference to my life. It's just a condition that I have to live with and work through."

Susan also hopes public will not continue to label or poke fun at her like in the past, now they know what she is dealing with the critics can show greater respect. "I think people will treat me better because they will have a much greater understanding of who I am and why I do the things I do."

Forget the Elvis Duet, The Susan Boyle Movie Is On The Way! 3929046 News

Fresh after news that Susan Boyle will be the first British artist duet with Elvis Prelsey, we've also learned that the big-screen movie adaptation of the singer's life is finally in development.

The singer, who became a global star after finishing second on Britain's Got Talent, told gathered journalists at a press conference to "watch this space" for more announcements on the movie.

She said: "There are plans in operation for that, but that's for later on," according to BBC Newsbeat.

The movie will arrive hot on the heels of One Chance - the Weinstein produced biopc of Paul Potts, another unlikely star who rose to fame after appearing on Simon Cowell's Britain's Got Talent. It stars James Corden in the lead role and features vocals dubbed in by Potts himself.

Boyle was speaking at the press conference to announce the release of her Christmas single, a duet of O Come All Ye Faithful, with Elvis Presley. Yeah we know, Elvis is dead. It's going to be Boyle singing over the top of dead Elvis.

Boyle described the duet as "awe-inspiring," adding, "Duetting with Elvis was beyond my wildest dreams. And now that this is able to raise money and help children is simply fantastic."

Royalties from the single will go to the Save The Children charity, of which Boyle has become an ambassador. She filmed the video for the track at a Glasgow primary school.

"I've had the privilege of spending time with families from a Fast programme - Families And Schools Together - that is run at a school in Glasgow," she said.

"To see the money raised in action and the difference it makes to these families is wonderful. It really does help people.

"The children from the Fast programme also joined me for the music video. We had a lovely two days and the children were fabulous. They were all stars."

The singer will be included on Boyle's fifth album, released on December 8, 2013.

Susan Boyle and Elvis Presley to 'Duet' - Christmas Number 1 for the Unlikely Pair? 3927784 News

Don’t ask how, but Susan Boyle is recording a Christmas single with Elvis Presley. The Scottish singer looks as bemused as anyone else, and what’s worse, is that no one seems to be explaining what the hell’s going on. Elvis Presley is dead.

“To sing with Elvis, I didn't think it would be possible... isn't technology brilliant?' said Boyle, totally ignoring what we just said. "Dueting with Elvis was beyond my wildest dreams and now that this is able to raise money and help children, it is simply fantastic." (Express)

Word just in: it’s not really a duet. Not really. Boyle will just be singing over a recording of Elvis singing. So it’s like some humming along to the radio but with words. It’s singing – singing over something else.

I went to Glastonbury a few years ago; Stevie Wonder was performing. I know the words to a few of his songs, so I sang along. I performed live at a packed Glastonbury Pyramid Stage with Stevie Wonder. Do you see what I’m getting at?

“I remember his music being played in the house growing up quite a lot - and I used to love going to see some of his films,” added Boyle, still ignoring us, thinking in her head that she’s probably met Elvis somewhere, and that’s how they got the chance to work together.

A cynic might argue that endless Christmas singles ‘dedicated’ to a certain charity have a more corporate angle. That attaching themselves to a good cause is merely publicity, as they stand to earn money, both from raw album sales and increased exposure over time, than if they just released the single normally.

Damn cynics.

Susan BoyleIf Boyle thinks she's duetting with Presley, then fine. Fine.

Fine.

Susan Boyle has already lived out her life-long ambitions by performing alongside the likes of Elaine Paige and Donny Osmond since she was catapulted to stardom through her performance on Britain's Got Talent, and now the Scottish singer will get to fulfil another life-long ambition by performing with The King himself; Elvis Presley.

"To put a unique twist on classic Christmas songs is truly wonderful," the thrilled Blackburn, West Lothian-native continued, as she now joins the ranks of Celine Dione and Frank Sinatra in duetting with a deceased Elvis through the use of studio tools. She added, "I grew up listening to Elvis and to sing with him, well, I didn’t think it would be possible. Isn’t technology brilliant?”

The Britain's Got Talent 2009 finalist also added that she will be dedicating the track to her father, who was also a massive Elvis fan. She told the paper, “The track is for my father – and for Elvis."

Elaine Paige was very gracious to susan during the duet and she and susan performed beautifully together- elaine seemed very kind to susan and of course susan showed heartfelt respect for elaine- I don't think elaine meant to put susan down in her comments - susan did recieive fast recognition once she appeared on bgt- her sassiness helped her a lot- but susan has had many years of practice and performing although not before big audiences and not recognized as a professional but amateur- susan is well seasoned in her craft though- she knows how to reach out with her voice- she's got it not only from her own practice but probably with a lot of natural born talent- and elaine has a lot to be thankful for the internet-- susan indirectly and directly spread her name around the world- and probably boosted elaine up at the autumn of her career- susan is new and fresh on the world scene and we adore her. susan boyle - the world is waiting for your next album.....
