The boyfriend of Bollywood star Jiah Khan has been remanded in custody as police continue to investigate the actress' suspected suicide.
The 25 year old reportedly hanged herself in her Mumbai apartment last week (03Jun13), and cops are looking into claims suggesting her troubled relationship with 22-year-old Sooraj Pancholi drove her to take her own life.
The allegations relate to a six-page letter Khan's mother found at her daughter's home containing accusations of abuse and infidelity, including claims she was forced to have an abortion against her will.
Pancholi, the son of actor Aditya Pancholi, is being held on suspicion of abetting Khan's suicide, a charge which could land him up to 10 years behind bars.
The suspect, an aspiring actor, appeared in court on Tuesday (11Jun13), when a judge ruled he must remain in jail until Thursday (13Jun13). Police chiefs are currently trying to verify the authenticity of the suicide note with the help of handwriting experts..
Meanwhile, Pancholi's mother, actress Zarina Wahab, has spoken out to declare her son's innocence.
She says, "I know the pain that Jiah's mother is going through. But I also know my son. I know what he's capable of doing... and the behaviour that I hear being attributed to him is not like my son at all."
The actor says he isn't "holding out for more money or doing anything like that".
