Sugar Ray Leonard - Boxing Great Leonard Sexually Abused As A Child
Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard was sexually abused by a "prominent" coach as a child, he reveals in a new memoir.
The famous fighter, who makes the confession in his upcoming tell-all book, The Big Fight: My Life In and Out of the Ring, admits he was assaulted by an unnamed "prominent Olympic boxing coach" on two occasions during the 1970s - the first time when he was just 15.
In an excerpt, obtained by the New York Times, he writes, "Before I knew it, he had unzipped my pants and put his hand, then mouth, on an area that has haunted me for life. I didn't scream. I didn't look at him. I just opened the door and ran."
And Leonard, who recently appeared on the U.S. hit reality TV show Dancing with the Stars, has decided to share his story in order to aid his own healing process.
He adds, "I realised I would never be free unless I revealed the whole truth, no matter how much it hurt."
The autobiography is due out in June (11).
