Booker T And The Mgs Bassist Donald 'Duck' Dunn Dies, Aged 70

Donald Dunn, the Booker T and the MG's bassist and one of the most influential bass players of the 1960s and 70s, was found dead in Tokyo this week after playing dates that were postponed in the wake of the Japanese Tsunami last year.
"They were over there doing five shows in a row, two shows every night - and for a 70-year-old guy, that was quite a bit of work," his son Jeff Dunn said to Cnn. He also confirmed that the musician, nicknamed 'Duck' had gone back to his hotel after their last show and died before catching a flight back to the United States. Dunn came to the fore after providing bass accompaniment to the likes of Booker T and The Mg's as a session bassist for the legendary Stax Record label. His list of credits reads like a who's who of the blues and soul scene including appearances with Muddy Waters, Levon Helm, Neil Young and Jerry Lee Lewis, among many others.
Dunn also provided bass for The Blues Brothers, the vehicle that allowed Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi to push their career in comedy. In a statement, Aykroyd said "Duck Dunn was the backbone of the Stax/Volt era. He was and will remain universally loved by all that knew him. His talent, knowledge and warmth, and especially his humor will be greatly missed."
