Bond Pair Signed Up For Clash Of The Titansby Contributor | 01 April 2009
Bond stars Gemma Arterton and Mads Mikkelsen have been cast in upcoming epic remake Clash of the Titans.
British actress Arterton, who played Agent Fields in Quantum of Solace, is to play the demi-goddess Io while Mikkelsen - the villainous Le Chiffre in Casino Royale - will play skilled warrior Draco.
The original film was released in 1981 and starred Sir Laurence Olivier, Dame Maggie Smith and Ursula Andress in a stop-motion adventure regarding the myth of Perseus.
Plans for a remake were announced last year and Louis Leterrier - director of The Transporter 2 and The Incredible Hulk - is to helm the mythical project.
Australian actor Sam Worthington, soon to be seen in Terminator: Salvation, will play Perseus while Arterton said she is "really excited" to play Io.
"She's like the guardian angel and she's really great - a really brilliant woman, even though she's a goddess," she explained at the Empire awards.
Arterton added: "My part is... the coolest part. Io's not in the original film. Perseus falls in love with her. It's a really great part.
"Obviously the story is the story, but it's much more about Perseus' mission, and how he deals with being the son of Zeus, and things like that, so it feels a little more about him, and about the issues around that."
Clash of the Titans is due for release in March 2010.
