The group, led by Jon Bon Jovi, beat U2, who came second, grossing $131,502,369 and AC/DC, who came third, taking an estimated $122,633,027.

Part of the Bon Jovi's touring in 2010 saw them sell out a 12-night residency at London's 02 Arena, and at the time guitarist Richie Sambora spoke of the band's elation to still be playing such big arenas almost 30 years into their career.

He said: "It feels great! We're still selling out stadiums for god's sakes!

"We just opened up the new Meadowlands stadium in New York - but it feels great to be here in London. This thing is not stopping. We're having so much fun."

Bon Jovi's 2008 'Lost Highway Tour' was also named that year's highest grossing by Billboard.

The hardest touring act on the list is Lady GaGa, who has performed an estimated 122 shows this year, grossing $116,227,987, and selling out 101 of them.

Meanwhile relative newcomer to the list, teen heartthrob Justin Bieber grossed an estimated $35,600,276 from his 62 shows this year, putting him in 19th place.

The list looked at concerts performed between November 22, 2009 and November 20, 2010 for all acts.
