The head of India's movie classification board has been arrested on a bribery charge.

Rakesh Kumar, Ceo of the Central Board of Film Certification (Cbfc), is accused of taking illicit payments to approve Bollywood movies, and slowing down the ratings assessment process to encourage bribes.

Police seized more than $17,000 (£10,000) in cash and gold jewellery from his home in a search last week (ends17Aug14) and Kumar, who denies any wrongdoing, appeared in court in Mumbai on Tuesday (19Aug14).

All films need to be approved by the Cbfc in order to be shown in India.
