Bocelli To Snub Home Country To Sing For England
Italian tenor ANDREA BOCELLI has stunned his homeland by declaring he wants to sing the official World Cup song for the England soccer team in 2010. Bocelli was delighted when Italy beat France to win the FIFA trophy in July (06), but harbours a desire to sing for DAVID BECKHAM's former team. He says, "If the FA (Football Association) would ask me I would be delighted to sing England's official World Cup song." Bocelli admits he was forced to keep quiet when Italy won this summer (06), because he was suffering from bronchitis. He laments, "It was pandemonium in the streets outside when they scored the penalties to lift the trophy. "Everyone was singing and shouting at the top of the their voices, except me. "I had lost my voice. Can you believe it? Maybe I can be a lucky omen for England in four years time."
