Bobby Brown Defends Performing Hours After Whitney Houston's Death

Bobby Brown has defended his decision to take to the stage just hours after learning of the death of his ex-wife Whitney Houston, insisting it's what the star would have wanted.

The My Prerogative hitmaker refused to cancel his concert at the Landers Center in Mississippi on 11 February (12), despite grieving for the late star, who was found dead in a bathtub in her suite at the Beverly Hilton hotel earlier that day.

He was clearly overcome with emotion during his performance, but came under fire from Houston's fans for going ahead with the show.

However, in a candid chat with Ellen DeGeneres on Wednesday (16May12), Brown insisted he tried his best to get to Los Angeles after hearing the tragic news, but decided to perform out of respect for his superstar ex.

He tells the U.S. chat show host, "I was in Mississippi performing and I got the call. Of course, I tried to get a flight. Tried to rent a jet. Whatever I had to do, but it was impossible.

"So I knew the best thing that she would want me to do was perform. You know, we are performers. That's what we did. That's what we do. And she would want the best for me."

Brown and Houston divorced in 2007 after 15 years of marriage.
