Bob Dylan - Bob Dylan Writer Resigns Over Invented Quotes
A top writer has resigned from The New Yorker magazine after confessing he invented Bob Dylan quotes in a new book.
Bosses at publishing house Houghton Mifflin Harcourt have pulled Jonah Lehrer's tome, Imagine: How Creativity Works, from sale after he acknowledged in a statement that remarks attributed to Dylan did "not exist".
A statement from Lehrer reads, "I understand the gravity of my position. I want to apologize to everyone I have let down, especially my editors and readers."
His publishing bosses insist Lehrer had committed a "serious misuse" and shipments of the book have been stopped.
Imagine was published in March (12).
Accepting his resignation at The New Yorker, editor David Remnick tells The Associated Press, "This is a terrifically sad situation, but, in the end, what is most important is the integrity of what we publish and what we stand for."
