Bob Dylan - Bob Dylan Skips Induction Into American Academy Of Arts And Letters

Folk legend Bob Dylan snubbed a ceremony inducting him into the American Academy of Arts and Letters on Wednesday (15May13).

The Lay Lady Lay singer became an honorary member of the society and was due to be feted during an event in New York City, but he skipped the bash.

In a statement to RollingStone.com, he writes, "I feel extremely honoured and very lucky to be included in this pantheon of great individual artists who comprise the Academy of Arts and Letters. I look forward to meeting all of you some time soon."

A citation awarded to Dylan at the event read, "For more than 50 years, defying categorisation in a culture beguiled by categories, Bob Dylan has probed and prodded our psyches, recording and then changing our world and our lives through poetry made manifest in song - creating relationships that we never imagined could exist between words, emotions and ideas."

Other honorary members of the group include Meryl Streep, Woody Allen and Martin Scorsese.
