Blur To Stage Full Comeback?

Blur may be on the brink of a full scale comeback.

The band have recorded a special track for a limited release on Record Store Day - which is designed to support the ailing state of independent music retailers in the UK - and the head of their record company is hopeful it will spur them to make a full comeback.

Miles Leonard, president of Parlophone Records, said the new track, the title of which hasn't been revealed, is one of the best the group - made up of singer Damon Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James and drummer Dave Rowntree - have ever recorded.

He said to radio station BBC 6Music: "It's an absolutely wonderful summer tune. I think it encapsulates all the sum of the parts of that band.

"I just hope that from hearing a song like this that the band feel there's more in them. We certainly do as a label and I'm sure when fans hear this they'll think the same."

Miles also described the track by the band - which Graham left in 2002 and went on hiatus in 2005, but briefly came together last year for a number of huge summer shows - saying it is "very special".

He added: "Graham's guitar lines just sound so simplistic and easy, and Alex's bass lines just drift through the track, very groove-based. And Damon's lyrics are as poignant as they've ever been.

"There's personal comment and social comment within the song - this is something very special."

The group parted ways after last summer to pursue other projects, with Damon working on a new album with his Gorillaz project, which was released last month; Graham also pursuing a solo career; Alex continuing as a cheese farmer and Dave his career in politics.

1,000 copies of the song will be released in independent record shops up and down the country on seven inch vinyl on April 17.
