DISH network, which has its own video-on-demand service, is restarting Blockbuster on Demand. It's presumably a similar service as its own -- only for those who do not subscribe to DISH. The service boasts thousands of movies, many of them released during the past year, that can now be accessed via smart TVs or through settop boxes, or on Android tablets and smartphones and on PCs and Mac computers. Conspicuously absent is any app for Apple's iPhone or iPad, which would compete with Apple's own iTunes app for renting movies. No subscription is necessary. Movies (only movies are available; no TV shows) rent for around $4.00 for standard-definition and $5.00 for HD. They must be viewed within 24 hours after being downloaded.
