Blades Of Glory Tops Us Chartby Contributor | 02 April 2007
Will Ferrell's latest film Blades of Glory has skated right to the top of the US box office chart after its first weekend of opening.
Featuring Ferrell and Jon Heder as two rival ice-skaters who team up to become the first male figure skating duo, the comedy took £33 million in ticket sales in three days.
Heder is no stranger to offbeat comedy, starring previously in the cult hit Napoleon Dynamite. Ferrell meanwhile has scored a number of hits including Elf, Anchorman and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
Disney's animated flick Meet The Robinsons about a time travelling orphan debuted in second place in the US with £25.1 million in takings, according to figures from box office tracker Media By Numbers.
Former number one 300, the visually-stunning bloody epic about the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC, slipped to third position after it added £11.2 million in takings over the weekend.
Making up the remainder of the US top ten are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; Wild Hogs; Shooter; Premonition; The Last Mimzy; The Hills Have Eyes; and Reign Over Me.
