Black Keys' Auerbach Collaborates With Dr. John
The blues legend, real name Malcolm John 'Mac' Rebennack, Jr., invited the rocker to help him record his latest album, Locked Down.
Auerbach, who plays a number of instruments, admits he was stunned by Dr. John's ability to master an electric organ he hadn't touched in decades.
He tells Rolling Stone, "Watching him come up with parts was just so awesome. Mac is fearless. Like that Farfisa solo on (new track) Revolution - that's a first-take solo. He just goes for it, man. He told me he hadn't played a Farfisa organ since 1969 when he was with Doug Sahm, and he killed it."
