Billy Crystal - Billy Crystal's Film Premiere Scrapped In Light Of School Massacre
The Los Angeles premiere of Billy Crystal and Bette Midler's new comedy Parental Guidance was axed this weekend (15-16Dec12) out of respect for the victims of the Connecticut elementary school shooting on Friday (14Dec12).
Fox movie executives decided to cancel the red carpet event hours before the stars were due to appear at the premiere on Saturday (15Dec12).
A statement issued by a Fox spokesman read: "In light of the horrific tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut we are canceling the red carpet press event and the after party for the Parental Guidance premiere, scheduled today in downtown Los Angeles. The hearts of all involved with this film go out to the victims, their families, their community, and our entire nation in mourning."
It was the second big premiere to be cancelled in as many days - on Friday night, studio bosses at Paramount Pictures also pulled plans to unveil Tom Cruise's new action thriller Jack Reacher on Saturday in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where the majority of the film was shot, following the tragic news.
Meanwhile, new episodes of hit Tv cartoons Family Guy and American Dad, which were both due to air in America on Sunday night (16Dec12), have been pulled due to possibly sensitive material in light of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre. Instead, Fox network officials have chosen to air repeats.
Network chiefs at the Syfy channel also postponed their planned Friday episode of supernatural drama Haven due to its violent content.
