Billy Corgan's Grand Designs

Billy Corgan said he takes on huge musical projects because otherwise he'll get bored.

The Smashing Pumpkins singer and songwriter is poised to release the second part of his 44 track 'Teargarden By Kaleidyscope' project and The five tracks on the EP, 'Vol. II: The Solstice Bare' takes the total number of released songs from the to nine.

Billy estimates it will take him another four years to fully realise the project, but isn't worried he's taken on too much.

He told Spinnermusic.co.uk: "I have more than enough songs. I'll probably write a lot more. It's such a different project than preparing for a normal album. It's interesting to write a song and come back to it a year later and have a completely new perspective from whatever you learned in that last year. I'm really enjoying that process."

He also compared the work to when he decided to follow up The Smashing Pumpkins' second album 'Siamese Dream' with the double disc set Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness in 1995.

He explained: "If I don't take off a big enough piece to chew on, I'll get bored. The last time I really did that was with the Mellon Collie album.

"After we had this wave of success with our second album I came out and said, 'OK, we're going to do a double CD' and everyone was like, 'Are you insane?' But it really made me commit on a deeper level to my writing, to the project. I looked at this similarly."

Billy is the only remaining original member of The Smashing Pumpkins.

Teargarden by Kaleidyscope Vol. II: The Solstice Bare is released on November 22.
