Big Wins For Blunt And Gnarls Barkley At Messy Mtv Vmas

GNARLS BARKLEY's CRAZY and JAMES BLUNT's YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL were the big winners at last night's (31AUG06) MTV Video Music Awards in New York, claiming two prizes. Gnarls Barkley's artistic video claimed Best Direction and Best Editing prizes before the awards had even started, while Blunt's You're Beautiful claimed the Best Male Video and Best Cinematography honours. The RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS were big losers, failing to win any of the seven awards they were nominated for, and SHAKIRA only claimed one of her seven nominations. Another big loser was the awards show itself, which was a mess of problems and ill-advised jokes. Former US Vice President AL GORE served up a serious but ill-timed environmental message after drunken members of the JACKASS team made a mockery of FALL OUT BOY's Viewer's Choice Award acceptance speech. A skit pre-recorded by BRITNEY SPEARS and KEVIN FEDERLINE - poking fun at their poor parenting skills - failed to raise a laugh, and comedienne SARAH SILVERMAN added an awkward moment when she poked fun at presenter PARIS HILTON's 'weight problems'. Meanwhile, ceremony host JACK BLACK seemed confused through much of the evening as he desperately tried to keep the messy show together. To top the evening off, a gatecrasher grabbed a microphone from Video Of The Year winners PANIC! AT THE DISCO and delivered a puzzling blast to MTV bosses. The mystery man said, "My name is SIX. MTV never gave me my own show so I want everybody around the world to log onto and give it up to these guys - big up REMY MAS, STARBLAZE and Philadelphia," before he was bundled offstage by minders. The ceremony ended with a crazed AXL ROSE taking to the stage and screaming an expletive at the audience before introducing final act THE KILLERS. As for the rest of the awards, they were completely spread out with punk-pop acts PANIC! AT THE DISCO and FALL OUT BOY claiming the night's biggest honours for Video Of The Year and Viewer's Choice Award respectively. The full list of award winners were: Best Direction In A Video - ROBERT HALES for CRAZY by GNARLS BARKLEY Best Editing In A Video - KEN MOWE for CRAZY by GNARLS BARKLEY Best Cinematography In A Video - ROBBIE RYAN for YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL by JAMES BLUNT Best Art Direction In A Video - JUSTIN DRAGONIS for DANI CALIFORNIA by RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS Best Special Effects In A Video - LOUIS MACKALL and TONIA WALLANDER for WE RUN THIS by MISSY ELLIOT Best Choreography - SHAKIRA for HIPS DON'T LIE Best Male Video - YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL by JAMES BLUNT Best Hip-Hop Video - MY HUMPS by BLACK EYED PEAS Best Female Video - BECAUSE OF YOU by KELLY CLARKSON Best Dance Video - BUTTONS by PUSSYCAT DOLLS Best Pop Video - STUPID GIRL by PINK Best Rap Video - RIDIN' by CHAMILLIONAIRE Best Group Video - MOVE ALONG by ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS Ringtone Of The Year - WHERE'D YOU GO by FORT MINOR Best New Artist In A Video - BAD COUNTRY by AVENGED SEVENFOLD Best R+B Video - CHECK ON IT by BEYONCE KNOWLES feat SLIM THUG Video Vanguard Award - HYPE WILLIAMS (video director) Best Rock Video - MISS MURDER by AFI Viewer's Choice Award - DANCE DANCE by FALL OUT BOY Video Of The Year - I WRITE SINS NOT TRAGEDIES by PANIC!
