Beyonce Leaves Her Mark On World Humanitarian Day

Beyonce is set to release a new single 'I Was Here' to coincide with World Humanitarian Day, a day of remembrance set up for the victims of a 2003 Baghdad bombing and a day to promote humanitarian efforts across the globe.

Last week, the hit-maker performed the song, taken from her last album 4, to a full house at the UN's General Assembly Rooms in New York. The whole show was filmed and will now be released as the video for the new single on World Humanitarian Day, which falls on August 19th, reports BBC News. Among the delegates and politicians in the sizeable audience was actress Julia Stiles and singer-songwriter The-dream, as well as Diane Warren, who wrote the song. Beyonce spoke to the crowd, giving an inspirational message to the spectators about how she feels the designated day can genuinely make a difference in people's lives and promote humanitarian efforts.

She said: "We all see the headlines and we think, 'What can I really do to help?' World Humanitarian Day is an opportunity for all of us to work together to make a difference". Set up in 2008, the August 19th day was set up to recognise the people across the globe who put their lives on the line in aid of those in need and promotes others to do the same.
