The musical pair topped Forbes magazine's list of wealthy couples with joint earnings of a reported $78 million (£49 million) over the last 12 months.

The sum puts them in first place ahead of last year's (11) number one couple, Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen and her American football star husband Tom Brady, who are now second.

Beyonce reportedly made more money than her rapper partner by pulling in an estimated $40 million (£25 million) from sponsorship deals, album sales and royalties from her back catalogue, while Jay Z is said to have made $38 million (£24 million).

Brits David and Victoria Beckham came in third place with $54 million (£34 million) ahead of Hollywood stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie with $48 million (£30 million) and Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith ($40 million/£25 million).
