Ben Misses Out Of Joseph Final

by | 03 June 2007

Joseph contestant Ben Ellis has missed out on the final of the hit BBC show Any Dream Will Do after failing to impress Andrew Lloyd Webber enough to save him.

The composer picked Lewis Bradley over Ben, despite two of the show's judges voicing concerns that Lewis may not be able to handle the West End stage at such a young age.

The 17-year-old was in the sing-off with Ben after the semi-final public vote saved fellow contestants Lee Mead and Keith Jack.

After singing I Dreamed a Dream from the hit West End show Les Miserables, Lloyd Webber said he had considered both the singing and acting that Ben and Lewis had done before the show and thought Lewis should go through.

A clearly disappointed Ben had survived a number of sing-offs before the semi-final but he took his defeat graciously and thanked the show for giving him the "best time" of his life.

Only three contestants now remain in the show, which aims to cast the lead role in the forthcoming production of Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Scottish youngster Keith, trained stage actor Lee and Lewis will battle it out next Saturday for the role, which is decided purely by the public and without intervention from Lloyd Webber as in previous shows.
