Ben Gibbard - Ben Gibbard Upset He Didn't Beat Flea In Los Angeles Marathon

Deathcab For Cutie star Ben Gibbard turned his first marathon into a competition between himself and fellow rocker Flea.
The two musicians hit the streets of Los Angeles for their first marathon earlier this year (11) and reformed alcoholic Gibbard, who is married to actress Zooey Deschanel, is still upset the Red Hot Chili Peppers star finished ahead of him.
He tells Spin magazine, "Flea was the only person I kind of know who was also running the marathon, and I foolishly thought there was a possibility that I could beat him... but I think all those years bouncing around stage playing funk bass gave him the edge. He just had a little more stamina than I did."
Gibbard reveals he started running in 2008 after he quit drinking, adding, "I needed to replace an unhealthy compulsion with a healthy one."
