Ben Affleck - Ben Affleck Moved By Roger Ebert's Final Review Of To The Wonder

Actors Ben Affleck and Rachel Mcadams paid tribute to Roger Ebert at the premiere of their new movie To The Wonder, which was the last film to be reviewed by the tragic critic, on Tuesday (09Apr13).

The beloved film buff lost his battle with cancer on 4 April (13) and two days later newspaper editors published his last piece of work - a review of the Terrence Malick romantic drama.

The notoriously harsh 70 year old spoke highly of the movie and Affleck admits he was especially touched to receive Ebert's sign of approval before his passing.

Speaking to USA Today at the film's Hollywood premiere, he said, "I did read it. I thought it was lovely. I went and visited Roger last summer and talked about Argo. I was in his home, and met his wife and saw how tough (conditions) were after his surgery.

"I was so moved by the cheerfulness that he had toward this, the sort of way that he bore that burden... He gave me a copy of his book and I read it, I just was so inspired by that. By a guy who was fighting something that was really debilitating, and was so gracious and warm and loved life.

"It just broke my heart to hear that he died. And the fact that he wrote his last review of (To the Wonder); it was viewed through the prism of this wonderful man who was at the very end of his life. And, to see the movie through that lens, was one of the most powerful things to ever happen to me in my career."

And his co-star MCAdams added the review brought her to tears: "It's a real honour. I read the review. I don't normally read reviews but it made me cry. It's a really interesting review... He will be very missed."
