Christopher Walken As Captain Hook! Everything We Know So Far About NBC’s Peter Pan Musical 4285500 News

Following on from last December’s ‘The Sound of Music Live!’, NBC have announced that their next musical offering will be a performance of 'Peter Pan'. The classic tale by JM Barrie has had many re-imaginings over the years (and there’s still two more to come), but this one sounds like it could be one of the most interesting. Why? Because it will contain Christopher Walken as a tap-dancing Captain Hook.

Christopher WalkenChristopher Walken will play Captain Hook

Yes Christopher Walken is the first cast member confirmed for the 'Peter Pan' musical and he’ll be taking on the role of Captain Hook. Considering Walken’s aptitude for playing villains and his musical skills, a turn as a song and dance pirate sounds a perfect fit for the Oscar winner. As NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt remarked, "He might really just be a song and dance man at heart. ... This might be the first tap dancing Captain Hook you've ever seen!”

For those who weren't aware, Walken initially trained as a dancer in musical theatre at the Washington Dance Studio, before he switched gears to drama. However Walken’s somewhat hidden talent became common knowledge in 2001 after his spectacular performance in Fatboy Slim’s ‘Weapon of Choice’ video. Six years later he put his musical skills on show again when he starred in 2007’s Hairspray remake as the husband of John Travolta.

Speaking of Hairspray, the Peter Pan musical will reunite Walken with Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the movie’s producers, who were also responsible for ‘The Sound of Music.’

While we have our Hook, there’s no word yet on who’ll be donning the green tights as the boy who never grew up. But one name we can rule out is Frozen star Kristen Bell. Yes NBC are looking to continue with theatrical tradition and cast a female in the leading role. Bob Greenblatt revealed on Sunday that they had approached Bell for the part but sadly they couldn't work out a schedule due to her commitment to Showtime's 'House of Lies'.

The problem that NBC are running into with the casting is that the lead needs to be available from Aug. 5-Dec. As Bob Greenblatt explained, "It's tricky finding the right person in the schedule that we need it but we're actually close. [Peter is] going to be female.”

But this modern Peter Pan musical will have a tough time surpassing its predecessor. Back in 1955 the channel aired a live broadcast of the famed 1954 broadway production. The show, starring Tony award winners Mary Martin and Cyril Richard drew 65 million viewers, which was the highest rating for a single program at the time. It was then broadcast live twice more, in 1956 and 1960 and also became the first musical to be shown in colour.

Christopher Walken Is NBC's Captain Hook, But What About Wendy? 4284186 News

The big news from Hollywood this weekend is that Christopher Walken has signed on to play Captain Hook in NBC’s live adaptation of Peter Pan. The production will follow up on the moderate success of NBC’s first attempt at a live musical adaptation with The Sound of Music. The adaptation, which aired in December and starred Carrie Underwood and Stephen Moyer, earned moderate reviews and great ratings for NBC.

Meet your new Captain Hook - Christopher Walken.

Walken is the first name announced on the Peter Pan cast and his involvement raises the bar for the rest of the cast and the production overall. After the announcement was made, he came out with the following: "I started my career in musicals and it's wonderful after all this time, at this point in my career, to be in this classic musical I watched as a child and to work with (producers) Neil Meron and Craig Zadan again after [2007 film adaptation of] Hairspray.

"It's a chance to put on my tap shoes again," Walken added in his statement.

The network is also excited to have him, as NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt said in a statement: "He's one of the most unique actors in our business. He might really just be a song and dance man at heart... This might be the first tap dancing Captain Hook you've ever seen."

Kristen Bell
The network also wanted Kristen Bell, but due to a scheduling conflict, they are still on the lookout for a Wendy.

According to E!News, Walken isn’t the only A-Lister that NBC has tried to recruit. Kristen Bell had reportedly been tapped for the role of Wendy, but she couldn’t be involved because of a schedule clash with Showtime’s House of Lies. The musical is being produced by Oscar veterans Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, so the whole thing seems to be in good hands. Peter Pan is set to air on December 4, 2014 in what may become a holiday tradition for NBC.

‘Once Upon A Time’ Casts ‘Frozen’ Anna And Kristoff: What About Elsa? 4268942 News

Once Upon A Time has cast Elizabeth Lail and Scott Michael Foster as Princess Anna and Kristoff in the ABC series' fourth season Frozen spin-off plotline. The events of the season will reportedly pick up where the Oscar-winning Disney musical left off, meaning ice cutter Kristoff will be seen adjusting to life at the castle.

Californication star Foster and newcomer Lail have both been cast in the lead roles, leaving only Princess Elsa still to be cast. Whether the team has a star in mind but casting news has been delayed to eke out fan antipipation a little longer or whether creators are still deliberating over the actress best placed to play the winter Princess is not clear.

Series creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis said that it had been hard for them to to get the rights to the Frozen characters as Disney didn't contact them with an offer. "We fell in love with the movie 'Frozen' when we saw it," Horowitz told TVLine.

"It is something that ever since we saw it would gnaw at us, 'Is there a way to fit it into our world?' And we cooked up a way to do it. We pitched the studio and the network, and they were kind enough to say, 'Go do it.'"

More: 'Frozen' director wants Josh Gad back for sequel.

Meanwhile Kitsis added "The thing we love about Elsa is she is a character that is perceived to be a villain but is clearly misunderstood, and that goes to the heart of our show."

One such actress and Elsa lookalike who could be well-placed for the role is Florida teen Anna Faith Carlton, who recently made headlines for being an eerie dead-ringer for the animated Disney character.

More: Frozen, Teletubbies and other "low cost" cosplay ideas.

Carlton has had her eye on Once's Elsa role ever since the spin-off was first hinted, launching an internet campaign encouraging fans to "re-gram" her photos in the hope that the trending topic will get her an audition.

Will Kristen Bell And Dax Shepard Pick 'Frozen' Inspired Name For Baby No.2? 4258771 News

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are going to be new parents for a second time, it has been announced. The film stars have confirmed that they are expecting a baby and a sibling for their 15 month-old daughter, Lincoln Bell.

Bell, 33, and Shepard, 39, are taking the next step to expand their young family after Lincoln's birth in March 2013 and their marriage in October last year. "I can confirm that Kristen and Dax are expecting their second child and a sibling for Lincoln. The whole family is beyond excited," a rep for the family told Entertainment Tonight.

Only days before the couple's big news broke, the Frozen actress had joked about adding a new member to the family on Twitter but posted a picture of their new dog. "The newest member of our family comes in the form of this little black man," Kristen tweeted, along with a photo of the fluffy black dog that the couple recently adopted.

More: Kristen Bell says being a mother is "more rewarding than exhausting."

Hollywood Life has speculated that, especially if baby number two is a girl, Kristen and Dax may decide to name them after a character from the smash-hit Disney musical Frozen in which Kristen voiced the lead character, Princess Anna.

The pair married last Autumn after having dated for six years and having been engaged for six. They picked a simple courthouse ceremony in Beverly Hills with just a photographer present to document the union.

More: Dax Shepard has a portrait of Brad Pitt in the bedroom.

The couple had attended the courthouse to obtain a marriage license but decided to wed there and then after an employee informed them that they didn't have to wait. They had both campaigned hard for the legalisation of gay marriage and ruled that they wouldn't tie the knot until gay people were allowed to.

Florida Teen Is A Dead-Ringer For Frozen's Princess Elsa...And She Has A Sister! 4249257 News

A Florida teen has become an internet sensation after sharing a photo of herself dressed as Disney's Frozen princess, Elsa, via Instagram. 18 year-old Anna Faith Carlton's remarkable physical similarity to the animated princess as well as her meticulous attention to the character's hair, make-up and outfits have made her an instant internet star.

<iframe src="//instagram.com/p/pTTHGoINzF/embed/" width="636" height="710" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" allowtransparency="true"></iframe>

Anna rapidly shot to 350,000 followers after her striking image was even shared on the news: "It was everywhere, and I was, like, what is happening, I don't understand," she said. She actually works as an Elsa impersonator, making appearances at special occasions, including children's birthday parties and proms, reports ABC News.

Anna has said that she was the one who noticed her own similarity to Elsa after watching the hit musical in December. "It's a crazy resemblance," Carlson told the Orlando Sentinel. "Every time I watch [the movie], it's weird because it's like I'm watching myself. It's kind of creepy."

The best part of the story is that Anna has a younger sister, Lexie Grace, who is a dead-ringer for Elsa's little sibling Anna, especially when she dons a brown plaited wig and a princess' gown. The pair appeared in character on Fox and Friends earlier this week and caused a stir with their costumes.

In an interview with Hollywood Life, the recent high school graduate revealed she hadn't expected the overwhelming attention she has received. "I never thought I'd get so much support," she said. She is hoping to make the publicity work in her favour by drumming up support to become part of ABC's fantasy drama series, Once Upon A Time.

The popular show has recently teased that it could be adding an Elsa, an Anna and a Kristoff to its cast. "If I got an audition, I could show them two sides of Elsa. On Once Upon A Time she was a bit of a villain, but I could show her other side - that she's trying to protect everyone. I have a couple skits I could show them - and I could sing, too!" Anna explained.

More: Frozen, Teletubbies and other "low cost" cosplay ideas.

To get herself seen by the show's producers, Anna has launched an internet campaign which requires her fans to "re-gram" her photos with the hashtag "#AnnaAsElsa" in the hope that the trending topic will get her an audition.

Watch the trailer for Disney's 'Frozen' and decide for yourself.

If Anna has Elsa actress Idina Menzel's singing talent to boot, there should be no reason why she couldn't try out for the role in the upcoming planned Frozen Broadway musical too.

The figures speak for themselves but what’s more important is how loved the characters have become in such a short space of time. Sisters Elsa, voiced by Idina Menzel, and Anna, by Kristen Bell, are the heart of the film, and have enthralled little girls (and grown ones) and offered up a new mould for the typical Disney princess - a more believable and relatable one.

Millions of girls out there dream of being an Anna or an Elsa, except that for one of them, the dream is more of a reality. Meet Anna Faith Carlson, an 18-year-old from Florida who is a living, breathing Elsa doppelgänger. Anna looks so much like the Disney princess that she receives fan art in the post of her as Elsa!

After going to watch Frozen last December she picked up on the resemblance and has since become an online sensation. After initially posting a snap on Instagram of herself next to an image of Elsa on a cardboard cutout, Carlson-mania has spread all over the internet. The teenager had been planning a career in acting before the release of the movie and has been performing since she was 7 years old. Since discovering how similar she looks to Elsa she now dresses up as the Frozen character and visits children who are in hospital suffering with cancer. What an inspiring thing to do!

We can imagine she brings light into a lot of children’s lives. Carlson is also hoping that the ABC series Once Upon a Time will want to cash in on the resemblance. The end of the last season was left on a cliffhanger as an ice queen approaches Storyville, leaving a path of frost in her wake. The series is clearly alluding to the fact that the Frozen character will be a major player in the next season, but have they cast an actress in the role yet? So far we have only see the character from behind so we can’t be sure just yet. Carlson’s mother says that they have tried contacting ABC to try and nab the role or at least land an audition, but they “haven’t heard anything as of yet.”

As Veronica Mars DVD Hits, Spin-Off "Play it Again, Dick" Is Announced 4182236 News

The Veronica Mars crowd-funding movie gets a DVD release this week, which should see the movie's takings get somewhere near its $6 million budget and prove that the whole thing was worth it. In fact, Veronica Mars got pretty good reviews and it's safe to say that fans of the cult television series were owed a movie.

Those supporters who funded the movie are now getting an extra special thank you in the form of a new spin-off series on The CW. The digital-only studio announced Monday that they're launching Play it Again, Dick, with Ryan Hansen in the lead role.

The show will be co-written and produced by Mars creator Rob Thomas and will star Hansen as himself as he tries to get the character he played on Mars, Dick Casablancas, a spin-off show of his own. The show is set to debut on CW Seed later this summer. The official press release says Hansen "begs, cajoles and pleads with his former Veronica Mars castmates and friends to help him get his character" a new show - meaning we'll probably get some cameos from Kristen Bell and co.

More: Veronica Mars contributors to be refunded

The Veronica Mars movie followed Bell's character on the eve of graduating law school. While interviewing at high end New York law firms, Veronica gets a call from her ex-boyfriend Logan who has been accused of murder. When things don't seem right with how Logan's case is handled, Veronica turns back to her old sleuthing ways.

More: After all that, is the Veronica Mars movie any good?

The studio album to the beloved fairytale flick has reached No.1 on the Billboard 200 album charts for an 11th time by earning its biggest sales week to date, mainly charged by Easter shopping.

In the week leading up to Easter, which ended on April 20th, the soundtrack sold 259,000 copies, which is a total increase of 94% from the previous week when the album only sold 133,000 but still reached No.1.

This week's sales results also mark another accomplishment, the album has now shifted 100,000 copies for the fifth straight week, and at this current time 'Frozen' has sold a total of 2.3 million copies.

The album has now earned most weeks at No.1 for a movie soundtrack since 'Titanic' in 1998, which featured the epic Celine Deon track 'My Heart Will Go On.'

Frozen
The flick is now the highest-grossing animation film of all-time

This is also the fourth animated movie soundtrack to reach No.1 since the chart became a weekly issue 56 years ago, following Disney's 'The Lion King' (1994) and 'Pocahontas' (1995), as well as Jack Johnson's 'Curious George' (2006). But 'Frozen' now stands alone as the longest-running No. 1 soundtrack by an animated film, beating 'The Lion King' which reached 10 straight weeks at the top of the charts.

Besides from the film's musical numbers, it is also highest grossing animation of all-time, beating the $1.063 billion mark which was set by the Disney/Pixar movie 'Toy Story 3' in 2010.
