Picture: Kristen Bell World Premiere of 'When In Rome' held at the El Capitan Theatre Hollywood, Califor....
KRISTEN BELL is stuck with an elderly dog she adopted out of pity after Hurricane Katrina - because the ailing pooch is surviving years longer than she had expected.
The Couples Retreat star took in three pets left homeless after Katrina struck New Orleans in 2005, volunteering to look after the oldest canine the shelter had in what she thought would be its final days.
But the dog, named Sadie, is clinging to life - and four years later, Bell has to put up with her pet's bad hygiene and diminishing health.
She explains, "I adopted this dog from Katrina when she was 12 'cause I work with a shelter and they had a bunch of dogs and I said, 'I'll take the oldest one, I can care for her.'
"Cut to four years later, (I'm) actually thinking she may be a real-life vampire and never die. She's almost totally blind and deaf. When she's in the house, you can hear her pooping from the other room, it's like bowling balls dropping.
"She's semi-crippled in the house and she breathes like Darth Vader."

| What a sad and strange story from soneone who wanted to do something good for this poor old creature. Old age in all of us isn't pretty but if you are fortunate enough to achieve it, how sad that the person who chose you is so sickened by uncontrollable actions. I wonder if the original owner of this dog was ever sought or knew the outcome and probably thought the dog died in the storm. Katrina was the source of much chaos for people and their pets in the worst possible way. It is really surprising to me that an animal lover and shelter volunteer would not express more compassion but thanks to her for the kindness she showed when it really counted. | ||

| "This makes it sound as though Ms. Bell resents the dog, to be 'burdened'." It sounds that way because thats how whoever wrote this trash decided to spin it. Nowhere in her qoutes does she sound "burdened". Sounds more like humor to me. | ||

| Doesn't sound like the dog gets much affection from Ms. Bell. I've taken care of old, incontinent dogs before, one had the addition of doggie dementia, but even though it was frustrating at times, I never yelled at her nor begrudged her the time it took to clean up after her. This makes it sound as though Ms. Bell resents the dog, to be 'burdened'. | ||
